Pinot Noir
This ancient variety was cultivated in Burgundy region of France by the Gauls before the Romans invaded in 4th century.  Since the climate of Burgundy is ideal for Pinot Noir, its production is always consistent. However, it is considered to be a difficult grape to cultivate as well as make wine. Apart from the Burgundy, Pinot Noir is also planted in Alsace, Oregon, California, Australia, Austria, Germany and New Zealand. It is grown in the coolest regions of these areas. In Burgundy only the red variety is grown and it is still known as a very noble variety of the region.

Pinot Noir is also described as the ancient wine. The grape is a small red grape grown in clusters which is famous for its rich aroma. Its skin is sensitive for diseases and called as the most difficult grape to grow and produce wine. The climatic conditions have a direct impact on the wine with the changes in the temperature affecting the flavor and the color of the wine. This variety can produce a thin pale wine if the climate is little warmer during the growing seasons. The ideal climate for this wine grape is found in the cooler grape growing regions ideally with some fog as well.

Pinot Noir has a strong fruit like character with aromas and flavors of cherry and strawberry allowing it to be an essential component in champagne and the color of the Pinot Noir wine varies from light red to brown.  Pinot Noir is considered to go well with light beef dishes, fish and is considered to be one of the best wines in the world suiting a wide variety of dishes.
